Dear Family Letter:
Dear host family.

My name is Phillipa Human. Every one calls me Pippa. I am 18 years old, born 1993 February 13th. I was born in Krugersdorp, Johannesburg South Africa. I lived in Johannesburg until I was six years old and then my family moved to a small coastal town called East London. It is a beautiful town by the beach. We now live on the outskirts of the town in a small village right on the beach called Sunrise on Sea. Our house is a short 5-minute walk to a beautiful beach. I love living out here because it is so close to fun activities outdoors.

My parents are both educators – my dads a teacher of biblical teachings and my moms and fifth grade teacher. They have been married for 24 years. My sister, Machela, is a high school educator and is married to a company representative. They have been married for 3 years and have a gorgeous little girl who just turned 2 in august. My eldest brother, Joshua, is 21 and is a mechanic. He has beautiful little girl aswell who also just turned 2 in July. The girls are very close together so it’s nice babysitting them both because they can bounce their energy off together. My younger brother is currently finishing the 9th grade at Abbotsford Christian School. We are a very close Christian family. We enjoy spending our time with all our relatives and being out doors. My grandparents own a little bed and breakfast in Hoggsback (a little mountain area). We plan lots of family trips up there and enjoy the walks, hikes waterfalls and wonderful scenery.

I am currently writing my final exams. I will be done at the end of November. I don’t particularly like to study but push through as I am determined to achieve a university entrance. Even though studying may be tedious it is very important! I love school and the 12 years I spent there with all my friends. When I am finished school I don’t want to go straight into university and study but I don’t want to spend a year mooching of my parents. Au pairing is perfect for me as it gives me the opportunity to travel, experience American culture, be around children (which is a passion of mine) and be productive while at the same time giving me a break between high school and university.

After my aupairing experience I want to go to university and study to become a primary school teacher. I really enjoy spending time with children which is also why I really love the idea of becoming an aupair.

My religion is very important to me as it teaches me Christian values to help me become a better person. It is one of many parts of who I am. It is also against my religion to smoke or drink so I will not be doing so in your home or around your family at all.

I have a very bouncy personality and love to socialize. I wouldn’t say I am shy but (like everybody else) would need time to adjust to my new surroundings. I love home and family – especially family. To me, family is the most important thing! My family has shaped who I am and my entire life. It will be very hard to leave them behind but I like to think of it as going to a new family – your family!

I am a big out door person – just being in the sunshine is great for me! I love all animals (maybe not spiders though because they scare me). I also have no allergies to that type of thing. A great day for me would be in summer by a lake having a picnic with great company and making amazing memories! Summer is a great time to spend out and about in the town and not cooped up in the house – even if it’s a stroll to the local park or playing ball in the backyard! Winter is the time to spend inside watching fun movies, arts and crafts, easy light cooking and trips to places like the museum or a sheltered area for a nice afternoon. Different activities are always great for fun days with the children and something to look forward to after completing homework and such.

I will be ready to drive in America by the end of November and start of December. I am working on my driver’s license so I am driving everyday for lots of experience. I can drive a stick or an automatic.

I would love to be accepted and welcomed into your family and will do all I can to ensure things going easily and pleasantly if not great as your au pair. I will be dependable, reliable and honest! I know that as an aupair my host family will be entrusting me with their most precious valuables – your children! I hope to play a good and positive role in molding them for the future and making sure they have the best year with me as their aupair (as it is equally important that they like me as my host family may)

Looking forward to an amazing experience!
Sincerely,
Pippa
