DEAR FAMILY
My name is Martina and I am 26 years old. I am from Slovakia and I live in a city called Kysucké Nové Mesto. My mother works as a manager in a highly-rated Slovak company and my father has his own sport business. Both of my parents are really ambitious. I have finished my master studies in the field of human nutrition three years ago. Then I decided to go on with my studies and I started doctorate studies in the field of food chemistry in the capital city of Czech republic, Prague. I also started another bachelor studies in the field of international relations and diplomacy along with my doctorate studies. I also gained certificate ECDL-Euoropean Computer Driving Licence. I have recently interrupted both of my studies as I want to improve my knowledge of English.
I am not learning only English, but also Spanish and I also learned German in the past. My experiences with children motivated me to choose au-pair as my job. In the past, I used to take care of my neighbors children, because their mother had to work for long time every day. I was looking after them 3 – 4 times a week. Michaela was 4 years old and Peter was 12 years old. Altogether I was looking after them for 2 years.
Since I was 20 years old, I used to travel to children´s summer camps, where I was working as an educator. The camps were designed as a school in the nature. Most of the time we were camping in the tents and the educators were organizing variety of games and small competitions for the children.
Later, when I had to move to Prague because of my studies, I started to volunteer in children´s oncology department in a hospital. I got a lot of emotive experiences and I met a high number of children who needed a lot of attention and love. What motivated me to do this activity was the feeling when I made a child happy. Sometimes I also went to retirements homes to make company to old people, what was also part of my volunteering. I have a lot of hobbies, but one of the biggest is to meet children and play with them. Maybe it is because I never had a sibling and I missed a brother or sister who would have played with me every day. I also like to read books, learn myself, traveling and swimming. I had already spent some time in the UK. This year I decided to move to Bournemouth for 6 weeks, where I was daily attending language school and I gained certificate of A2 level. I enjoyed my time in Bournemouth a lot, and I really like the people and the country. That is also one of the reasons, why I would like to do au-pair in the UK and I would like to gain new experiences. I am able to take care of a household, as I have my own in Slovakia.
