Young people from Nordic countries don't need a residence permit nor a proof of residence to work as an Au Pair in Denmark.
EU/EEA citizens need to apply for a proof of residence.
Nationals of the newly EU countries and those of non-EU countries must apply for an au pair residence permit.
This area is well regulated in Denmark (Nordic Style!!!) and there are condition to be met by both families and au pairs for the authorities to agree with a contract.
Au pairs conditions:
- if you have been an au pair twice before your application will be rejected
- allowed age: 17 to 29
- not married
- not responsible for any children
- at least nine years of schooling
- must have knowledge of one of the following: Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, English or German
Family's conditions
- Parents have to be from EU and to reside in Denmark and the host family has to be comprised from at least one parent with one child.
- Host family cannot be eligible if receives public funding.
- Only one au pair can be registered with the same family.
