Family rules

Although you'll be considered a family member, please remember that, at least initially, you are still a stranger to them. So always listen to parents' wishes.

Never forget that your main responsibilities are the children. It is a crime to hit a child, so do not do that.

Never leave a child unattended, especially in the bath. Keep an eye on him/her all the time, in such cases, only a few inches of water is enough for them to drown or choke.

Be practical, responsible and think twice before doing anything. Seek parents advice if you are not sure of something.

Children, especially young ones, are putting everything in their mouth. So if you see small objects lying around, which can be a choking hazard, put them out of their reach.

While the bedroom is your private space, children can often walk in it, are curious and probably want to spend more time with you! So try to keep medicine and dangerous objects in places where they cannot reach.

If you go out for a walk or in the park, pay attention to road rules. So make sure your hold the baby's hand, if you go on foot or, if it is in a pushchairs, try not walk too close to a parked car (can go unexpectedly).

There are children who suffer from food allergies. Your host family will inform you about this at your arrival, but it is always best to check with the family before giving children snacks such as nuts or candy.

Most of the items listed here are common sense, but for the uninitiated who do not have childcare experience, we hope will be useful.
